The Bede Griffiths Sangha (Sanskrit for community) was establihed in 1994, shortly after Father Bede’s death. It seeks to share and continue his vision through meditation, prayer and contemplative sharing. We are not dedicated to the preservation of one man’s name, but to the furthering of his vision, which was to seek the truth at the heart of all religions.
Many of us are Christians, some are not. We are exploring new ways of being in community and meditation is central to the life of the Sangha.
We offer both week end and week-long retreats and seminars, based on the rhythm of the day at Shantivanam. At some of these retreats we celebrate mass in the Indian style, and in our worship we include Indian music, and readings from all the religious traditions.
We publish a newsletter three times a year as a forum for discussion and information on forthcoming events. We welcome contributions from all our members. A ‘working group’ of volunteers facilitate the day to day running of the Sangha.
Most of all the Sangha is a network of like-minded people who are seeking God in their lives and who are open to the spirit of contemplation and wholeness in the world.
‘Stillness within one individual can affect society beyond measure’
